1. A City Full of Problems (New Orleans Themes and Threats)

"Once you've picked out your city and you have some idea of what looks like fun, you get to fill it with all sorts of problems that the PCs will have to contend with.

We've broken down those issues into two types: themes and threats. Themes are problems that have been around for a long time, long enough that people almost take them for granted. Threats, on the other hand, are problems newto the city-sometimes so new that hardly anyone knows about them.

At this stage, you're going to come up with about three of these problems for the city overall. You'll also do this a bit more with each location in the city."

We'll just worry about the city themes/threats for now. So go ahead and post some ideas for themes/threats and when we figure out which three we want I'll edit them into this post.

Threat idea: Spring and Autumn on the brink of war

That's a good start now try fleshing those our a bit so we can get aspects out of them. Give us a paragraph or two for each of them. So we have more to go on than a phrase.

Everyone make sure you read through the city creation chapter. It explains what we're doing for ya. Actually a good idea to read the whole book but for now you can get away with everything up to the end of city creation.

Any other fledgling themes or threats?

It's New Orleans. Obviously the white court has a big presence. Maybe the whites and red have an uneasy truce in the city. My idea was Vampires are the true power behind the throne.

To expand on my theme and threat....

Voodoo Magic: New Orleans has a rich history full of this. In fact there is a subset religion of Voodoo called New Orleans Voodoo that still practices openly to this day. They even have a music festival called Voodoo fest.

Spring and Autumn: I'm thinking that the two courts at war could have been responsible for Huricane Katrina. Ever since then it has been an uneasy ceasefire (kind of like North and South Korea XD)

So how about "A City Undersiege" for the spring/autumn aspect?

Theme: Sierra River Park, the Amusement Park. With it's signature attraction, the 150ft Ferris Wheel, right on Lake Pontchartrain, this Bucktown tourist attraction has been delighting children young and old for many years. The original owner, Kurt Bochenek, was loved by all and it was a devastating event when he passed away three months ago. He passed his park on to his son Erik Bochenek and the park continues to entertain everyone. But only a certain few know of the new attraction that the park holds...

Trouble: There is a new tent that only a certain few have access to. Inside, there is a giant circle stage tinged red with blood. Here, people unlike us are forced to do battle with each other with their lives on the line. This is the Underdome. Not to be confused with Moxxi's Underdome, this is a place that supernatural beings pit magic against claw here for the amusement of others. It's known by word-of-mouth that these "things" are kept there, but everyone that's not in the know believes that it's for helping them and curing them.

It's a bit rough, but I think something could be made of this. I'll ponder over it and refine it more before we start.

That's pretty good rob. I think it would probably work better as a location though.

I've summed up what we have so far. I'm working on getting us some maps and other pictures for some ideas.

do we wanna do something with the whole hurricane katrina thing? we could have it take place some time around after the hurricane so we could have flooded streets and wreaked houses. We could have the hurricane caused by something evil, a huge leviathan, or a evil wizards spell. Or is that too soon?

wait, i see, this will take place before Katrina. nevermind

The year is movable. We could have Katrina be a climax in the game or maybe it was the catalyst of the creating of the new Fey courts.

I moved around and sticked some threads in here in city creation. The numbers are the approximate order to plan in. We still need a couple more solid themes/threats, and I've filled in the face and location we've come up with.

Also need to decide if were playing before or after Katrina, either way thats a GOOD theme.

Ok, I've kinda got something, even though it's been a while. Here goes.

Theme: Gang activity has always been a part of New Orleans. It's accepted more as a part of the community, even if the community doesn't like it. The police cannot eradicate them all and just hope that they can co-exist with the people. Two of the biggest gangs, the Grove Wolves the Leonidas Legion have had control of all of Holly Grove and the Leonidas areas respectively for years now. They've gone through leader after leader, all just as respected as the last. The Wolves's new leader, CASEY MCCORMICK, has taken the gang over for the last 2 years now. He's shifted their focus more towards trafficking and less on aggressive takeovers and this has left some members of the gang disgruntled and shiftless. The Legion's leader, BENITA ROSE, has been leader for about two months is the gang's first female leader and they haven't taken to her as much as previous leaders. She wants to prove herself strong to her gang to gain their respect.

Threat: BENITA has taken a hyper aggressive stance as of late and has started to actively strike out at smaller gangs in the area, effectively squashing any attempts at other gangs gaining any traction in her area. She's begun invasion of the Wolves's territory with hopes to gain some of their area. CASEY, with his money garnering focus, has ignored her attempts to take their land because he believes he won't lose his land. However, ANTONIO COOK is not satisfied with CASEY's actions toward this obviously hostile attacks. He's started a smaller, secret gang within the Wolves and began to attack back. These outbreaks are getting more and more violent and are starting to draw media attention to the two gangs. The city fears that if the two gangs start an open war with each other, that section of the city will become a literal warzone.

The gang activity will work great for a theme. The specifics of what gang has what is more of a threat. Good job!
